Summary
A full day at the Fuencaliente salt flats with your own Kite Optics set. Choose between three spotting scope models and photograph birds with your phone all day long. This isn’t an introductory course, but the chance to test in your own time and under real conditions what the equipment can do. For 2 to 6 participants.
Description
What it’s about
You don’t buy a spotting scope from a spec sheet. Only out in the field do you notice how it handles, how it deals with backlight and whether the pictures on your own phone live up to what the optics promise. That’s what this day is for: you get a complete set and the whole day to work with it.
This isn’t an introductory course. If you want to learn digiscoping from the ground up, book the private introduction. There I’ll show you every step, with my full attention on you.
The equipment
Three spotting scope models to choose from:
- KSP 80 HD2 (25–50x) – high-end spotting scope
- SP 85 HD (20–60x)
- APC 60 ED (17–35x) – image-stabilised, great for videos and reels
You also get a carbon tripod with a fluid head, a universal adapter for your phone and a pair of binoculars. The adapter fits every phone model.
The day
- 09:00 to 12:30 – Meeting point at the Fuencaliente salt flats. You get your set and start working with it.
- Lunch break – We eat together at a restaurant and talk through the morning: what worked, what didn’t, which scope suits whom. Food and drinks are paid by each participant.
- 15:00 until dusk – Second session. The afternoon light is different, and different birds are about.
The location
The Fuencaliente salt flats at the southern tip of La Palma. Here you photograph Berthelot’s pipit and waders such as ruddy turnstone, whimbrel, plovers and sandpipers. Grey herons and little egrets hunt for small fish in the pans. Black-winged stilts or avocets turn up now and then, and on rare occasions flamingos.
You stay on the salt flats site for the day.
Participants
Maximum 6 people. The day goes ahead from 2 participants.

How to book
Select the correct number of people. The correct price will be displayed automatically. Once you’ve booked, I’ll get in touch with you to discuss the details.
How to pay
You don’t need to pay anything at the time of booking. Once we’ve discussed everything, I’ll send you our bank details and a payment link via Stripe.
- The payment must be received no later than 8 days before the booking date.
- If you book less than 8 days in advance, please pay within 24 hours.
- If payment is not received by the agreed date, the booking will be automatically cancelled.
Cancellation policy
- Up to 8 days before the appointment: free of charge
- 7 to 4 days in advance: 50% refund
- 3 days or less before the appointment, or in the event of a no-show: no refund
